Analytical Solutions for Solute Transport

The program package "SOLUTE" is a set of five programs based on analytical solutions of the advective-dispersive transport equation for a non-conservative tracer solute. All SOLUTE programs facilitate interactive data entry and editing, and results are given in tabular and graphic form, including contour plots and line graphs.
The onedimensional and radialsymmetric models simulate the effects of a single source of contaminants; the two-and threedimensional models support multiple point sources using the principle of superposition to calculate the accumulated effects of various sources or to represent line (strip) or areal (patch) sources. These multiple sources may have a different starting time and be of limited duration. All models support advectiona and dispersion; the one-, two- and threedimensional models support retardation and decay; the radial symmetric models handle only retardation. The programs use either consistent metric units or a system of English units. The individual programs are:
ONED-1: one-dimensional solute transport in a semi-infinite area with constant concentration as inlet boundary condition.
ONED-2: one-dimensional solute transport in a semi-infinite area with decaying source as inlet boundary condition.
ONED-3: one-dimensional solute transport in a semi-infinite area with a concentration-dependent mass flux as inlet boundary condition.
PLUME-2D: two-dimensional areal or cross-sectional transport of a plume from one or more limited duration point sources in a uniform ground-water flow field.
SLUG-2D: two-dimensional areal or cross-sectional transport of a slug in an uniform ground-water flow field caused by one or more instantaneous point sources in a uniform ground-water flow field.
PLUME-3D: three-dimensional transport of a plume from one or more limted duration point sources in a uniform ground-water flow field.
SLUG-3D: three-dimensional transport of a slug in a uniform ground-water flow field caused by one or more instantaneous point sources.
RADIAL: solute transport in a plane radial flow field; this program calculates the concentration distribution along the radial coordinate away from a recharge well.
LTIRD: same as RADIAL but no retardation; based on improved solution of solute transport equation in radial coordinates.
UNITS: this program converts ten most frequently used type of units in hydrogeology from English units to metric units and vice versa.
SOLUTE is menu-driven with full screen editing capabilities, and can accept different sets of units. The proprietary program produces tabular and graphical output of concentration distribution in space and time, which can be directed directly to a plotter, or to a file for subsequent postprocessing and printing. SOLUTE is a DOS-based program which runs as a DOS application under Windows. Its distribution includes runtime versions of the program modules, example data sets, and program documentation.
